“ALWAYS SAY YES”— Sexuality and Desire

“Always Say Yes”

Sexuality and Desire

Amos Lassen

It has been a long time since I have seen a well-made sexually explicit erotic film. I feel that if the eroticism and the storyline do not complement each other and come together then what we usually have is porn. Good erotica is very difficult to create.

Alberto Fuguet’s “Always Say Yes” manages to do this and to do it well. Hector (Gerardo Torres Rodriguez) is a gay man living in Mexico who decides to leave his town of Hermosillo and go to Mexico City with the hope of posing naked for “Feral”, a sex-positive photography collective. He not only leaves behind his friends, he also leaves his inhibitions. He is determined to experiment and play out all of his various desires in real life, with no limits. He promises himself to always say yes to every new situation, no matter what the consequences may be.

If you are not prepared to see or do not want to see explicit sex and nudity that are not gratuitous, then this is not a film for you. The film looks at desire, masculinity and sexuality with totally uninhibited performances from the cast. This film contains graphic scenes of sex acts.

Really looking forward to this one, as I loved Fuguet’s last film. I’m curious though, how explicit is the sex? Does it involve Gerardo Torres and Pavel Akingdog or only supporting characters?
