Beim, Norman. “A Not-So-Nice Jewish Veteran Faces Life”, New Concept Press, 2014.
A Memoir in the Form of a Novel
Norman Beim brings us the second volume of his memoirs/biography and I must say he is a man of many words. The first volume came in at over 500 pages and this is almost the same and there is still more to come. I do not how many of us have lives that would fill so many pages but Beim definitely does. Beim is a playwright, a novelist and an actor. Here we learn of the years after World War II and now he is married and as aspiring actor. It is a rough period for many and Beim is faced with dealing with life not on his own terms but as it comes to him (even though he says it is on his own terms but sometimes we forget how war affects those who were involved. He tells his story with candor and honesty and relates how it was to survive as a man and as an artist. Throughout his life, Beim has had many wonderful events and here we share them with him as we do the not so wonderful times. If you love theater and you love life, this is a book for you.
