Father and Son
“The Hunt’ is a new short film coming out of Cyprus about a father who is homophobic and his gay son. It is based on a true story and is the film from Cyprus to deal with gay people and the negative consequences of homophobia.
Here is what the film’s website has to say:
“… film is dedicated to Human Rights. LGBTI rights are a part of Human Rights. We live in heteronormative societies. Unfortunately we still face homophobia and discrimination against LGBTI individuals everywhere around the world. In some regions LGBTI people are even in constant danger to face violence of different kind. Northern Cyprus decriminalized homosexuality officially on 7th February 2014! On both sides of the divided island there are tendencies to homophobia and discrimination of LGBTI individuals. Some LGBTI persons face violence and discrimination in their own family, friends circle and environment. This often has fatal results. It gets tragic and unacceptable when parents act in violence towards their own children. This is why we have decided to make this film.
There is still a long way to go to change the society so the people tolerate and respect everyone no matter how ‘different’ they are. Our film is against homophobia, discrimination and violence towards any living being (humans and animals). All individuals deserve equal rights and treatment no matter what sexual orientation, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, nationality”.
