E.K.Weaver is an artist and a writer and he has told the story of TJ and Amal in a web-based comic strip. He decided he needed a larger arena for the story and so he published a multi-story series about a trip across this country. He combines comedy and love as well as in-depth character study to bring us this fascinating book. This volume is about the beginning of their story and it told in very mature themes.
It took just one evening for Amal to call off his wedding, come-out and become disowned by his parents. He went on a bender and when he woke up the next day, he finds TJ, a thin, dread locked man in his bed. TJ tells Amal that they made a pact to travel together from Berkeley, California to Providence, Rhode Island and Amal remembers that he told his sister that he would be in Providence for her graduation. Amal drives and TJ pays for everything but a long journey like that can cause problems and things get complicated.
Sure, it is a simple story but when told as a comic book, it is a fun read. Now we just have to wait for the other volumes to see how everything turns out.
