Lea Goldberg lived from 1911-1970 and was the person responsible for the establishment of the Department of Comparative Literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She was a poet and a playwright who wrote with clear honesty. Her poems are presented here in translation and with notes which explain some of the translation issues and her poetry takes you away to different worlds. She writes about her childhood in Latvia/Russia and she writes of her new homeland, Israel. She is intimate and personal and yet she shares it with us.
Goldberg was quite prolific and this volume contains about a quarter of her total output and the translation of the one play she wrote for the stage, “”Lady of the Castle”.
